Meet Pastor alan

Alan and Sharon have been serving the South Tahoe community since 1995 when Alan was called to become the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church.  

Alan grew-up in Sacramento, CA and attended high school at McClatchy High but graduated from Castro Valley High in the Bay Area.  It was during his time at Castro Valley, at the age of 17, that Alan was moved to pick up a bible.  Not knowing where to start, Alan began reading  the New Testament (since in his mind, it was "new").  Alan remembers this experience as earth-shattering and could not put the scriptures down.  When he reached Luke 23, Alan was moved when he read:

• "and when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left (23:33)."
• "Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us. (23:39)”

Upon seeing this, Alan immediately prayed and trusted in Jesus and called upon Him for salvation.  Radically, this changed Alan's life and he has never stopped taking about the Lord.  

After high school, Alan enrolled in the Navy and was shipped to Vietnam aboard the U.S.S Enterprise.  Alan spent those years telling everyone aboard about Jesus Christ.

After his service, Alan attended Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake, NY and graduated with honors in Theology.  Alan was encouraged by Jimmy DeYoung, the staff evangelist, to continue his education at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga.  It was here that Alan met Sharon, the love of his life.  The two have been married since 1976 and have two beautiful children and two grandchildren.
